The Bunge Foundation Award, former Moinho Santista Award, was created in 1955 and is considered one of the most important stimulus to intellectual production for recognizing the work of personalities that contribute to the growth of Brazil.
The stimulus to the development of innovative ideas integrates the awarding rules. The candidates are not registered, but nominated by the main Brazilian universities and scientific and cultural entities.
A Technical Commission, comprised of renowned experts in each awarding area, pre-selects two names from each field of knowledge, and indicates them to the Grand Jury decision. In case of young talents, the Technical Commission chooses directly those awarded for the year.
Subsequently, the Grand Jury, a collegiate comprised of representatives of scientific and cultural entities, university deans and state ministers, presided by the chairman of the Justice Court of the State of São Paulo, is responsible for selecting the awardees of the Award edition.
