AWARDING AREAS

Art. 1. The Awards shall be annually granted to Brazilian or foreign citizens with definitive permanence in the country, and distinguished in Sciences, Literature or Arts, becoming themselves entitled to public recognition.

Paragraph 1 - In order to fairly bestow the personalities in sciences, literature and arts, these are divided into the following 6 areas.

  • I – Biologic, Ecologic and Health Sciences;
  • II – Exact and Technological Sciences;
  • III – Agrarian Sciences;
  • IV – Human and Social Sciences;
  • V - Literature;
  • VI - Arts.

Paragraph 2 - Each year, under a rotation system, the award shall be granted to one of human knowledge areas listed in the previous paragraph. The other areas, if indicated by the Administrative Board, may be included in the annual incentive.

Paragraph 3 - For each area defined to annual awarding, the Administrative Board shall establish a field to be bestowed.

NOMINATIONS

Art. 2. There is no registration to the Award. The candidates shall be nominated by Institutions linked to the awarding areas.

Art. 3. Aiming at a best and most perfect designation of candidates, the Administrative Board, considering the areas to be awarded, shall annually define a list of the institutions mentioned in the previous article.

Art. 4. The nominations, duly confirmed, shall be made confidential and presented in writing, followed by bio-bibliographic information, until May 30 of each year, after which they shall not be taken into consideration.

Sole paragraph - A maximum of two nominations may be made to the Bunge Foundation Award, and two to the Bunge Foundation Youth Award, for each of the areas.

Art. 5. Nominees to the Bunge Foundation Award should have performed a work of big value and projection at the awarding area.

Art. 6. The nominees to the Bunge Foundation Youth Award should:

a) have written a doctorate or dissertation thesis, or have produced researches, publications and works in the area, or have outstood in the awarding area;

b) be up to 35 years old in the year of nomination.

Art. 7. The works considered should be written in Portuguese language and exceptionally may be written in a foreign language, provided that they are duly translated.

Art. 8. Once received the nominations, the Bunge Foundation General Superintendent shall inform this confidentially to the members of the Technical Commissions.

Art. 9. The cases omitted shall be resolved by the Administrative Board.

TECHNICAL COMMISSIONS

Art. 10. For each field there shall be a Technical Commission comprised of up to four members of notable qualification in the Incentive area, indicated by the Bunge Foundation General Superintendent and approved by the Administrative Board.

Art. 11. The Technical Commissions shall meet in the month of June of each year.

Art. 12. Each Technical Commission is responsible for:

a) analyzing the nominations received from the Institutions and selecting two names to be presented to the Grand Jury decision for granting the Bunge Foundation Award;

b) analyzing and reporting the works of nominees to the Bunge Foundation Youth Award, deciding on the granting of such award.

Art. 13. The Technical Commissions should write their final opinion and present it at the Grand Jury meeting.

Art. 14. The Technical Commissions’ meetings shall be secret, and forbidden the disclosure of the internal works thereof.

GRAND JURY

Art. 15. The Bunge Foundation Award’s Grand Jury shall be comprised of the following members: the chairman of the Federal Supreme Court, the chairman of the Justice Court of the State of São Paulo, the state ministers connected to the awarding area and the chairman and the vice-chairman of the Bunge Foundation Administrative Board, as permanent members and the chairmen of Entities and Institutions linked to the awarding fields and deans of federal and state universities, and others annually selected by the Administrative Board..

Sole paragraph - OMembers of the Technical Commissions and the Administrative Board shall attend to the Grand Jury meeting, without right to vote, except for the chairman and vice-chairman of the Bunge Foundation Administrative Board.

Art. 16. The Grand Jury shall meet between July 1 and August 31 of each year.

Paragraph 1 - The Grand Jury board shall be comprised of the chairman of the Federal Supreme Court, as the president; the chairman of the Justice Court of the State of São Paulo, as the vice-president; and the chairman and vice-chairman of the Bunge Foundation Administrative Board, and state ministers, as permanent members.

Paragraph 2 - The Bunge Foundation General Superintendent shall be the secretary of the Grand Jury, without the right to vote, or in case of his absence, the person indicated by the Administrative Board.

Paragraph 3 - The Bunge Foundation Administrative Board shall complete the Grand Jury board, in case of absence of any of its members.

Art. 17. The Grand Jury installation shall be made by its chairman and, in his absence, by the vice-chairman, or, in his absence, by a representative of the Bunge Foundation Administrative Board.

Sole paragraph - The Grand Jury shall only function with the presence of a third of the members summoned.

Art.18. Once checked the attendance and the works are opened, the Technical Commissions shall present to the Grand Jury the opinion about the nominees.

Art. 19. The Grand Jury decisions shall be taken at a secret voting by absolute majority of present votes, and its president is responsible for the quality vote.

Art. 20. The Grand Jury meetings shall be secret, forbidden the disclosure of its internal works.

Sole paragraph - After the Grand Jury decision on the Bunge Foundation Award granting, the chairman of the meeting shall disclose the name selected for each area, maintaining confidentiality about the others.

Art. 21. All the meetings shall have a detailed minute, drawn up at the due book.

DIPLOMAS AND MEDALS

Art. 22. The Bunge Foundation Award diploma shall be signed by the Grand Jury chairman and by the chairman and vice-chairman of the Bunge Foundation Administrative Board, and shall have the following wording:

““The Bunge Foundation, pursuant to its Statutes and in compliance with the Grand Jury decision, grants to …... the Bunge Foundation Award of (year) in the field of........ for his/her work of exceptional value that makes him/her entitled to public consideration and recognition”.

São Paulo, September .. , ..... .

Art. 23. The Bunge Foundation Youth Award diploma shall be signed by the chairman and vice-chairman of the Bunge Foundation Administrative Board, and shall have the following wording:

“The Bunge Foundation, pursuant to its Statutes and in compliance with the Technical Commission decision, grants to …... the Bunge Foundation Youth Award of (year) in the field of........ for his/her work of exceptional value that makes him/her entitled to public consideration and recognition”.

Art. 24. The awards’ medals shall have graved in their front a woman’s head symbolizing the science, a hand holding a flame, as the knowledge; a wing, as the victory; and the Southern Cross, as Brazil, and on its back the Bunge Foundation logotype.

AWARDING CEREMONY

Art. 25. The Awards shall be granted to the awardees at a public solemnity, in the month of September of each year.

Sole paragraph - In case of absolute impossibility of attendance by the awardees, the Administrative Board shall analyze the motive presented and only in case of absolute force majeure, duly confirmed, it will resolve on the delivery of the Award, as the circumstances so recommend.

THE BUNGE FOUNDATION AWARD

Art. 26. The Bunge Foundation Award to be annually delivered consists of, to each awardee:

a) a public recognition diploma;

b) a gold medal; and

c) an amount in local currency, annually fixed by the Administrative Board.

Art. 27. The award is indivisible, but if the basis result from a work carried out in cooperation, it may be attributed jointly to its authors.

Art. 28. The Bunge Foundation Award granting to each of the annual areas is made by the Bunge Foundation Award’s Grand Jury, in accordance with the opinion of the Technical Commissions.

Art. 29. Should the Grand Jury decide that the Award shall not be granted, the respective amount shall be destined to purposes determined by the Administrative Board.

Art. 30. In case of resignation of the Award, the Administrative Board shall decide on the destination of the value thereof.

Sole paragraph - The award not claimed within one year of the awarding ceremony thereof shall be considered resigned.

THE BUNGE FOUNDATION YOUTH AWARD

Art. 31. The Bunge Foundation Youth Award, to be annually delivered consists of, to each awardee:

a) a public recognition diploma;

b) a silver medal; and

c) amount in local currency, annually fixed by the Administrative Board.

Art. 32. The award is indivisible, but if the basis result from a work carried out in cooperation, it may be attributed jointly to its authors.

Art. 33. The Bunge Foundation Youth Award delivery in each of the annual areas is made by the Technical Commission.

Art. 34. Should the Technical Commission Jury decide that the Award shall not be granted, the respective amount shall be destined to purposes determined by the Administrative Board.

Art. 35. In case of resignation of the Award, the Administrative Board shall decide on the destination of the value thereof.

Sole paragraph - The award not claimed within one year of the awarding ceremony thereof shall be considered resigned.
