Age-Grade Difference - Situation of students backward at school, that is, which are over the age compatible with the grade they are in.

Amazonia - Region in South America defined by the Amazon River basin and mostly covered by a tropical forest (that is also called Amazonian Equatorial Forest or Amazonian Forest). Atlantic Forest - Brazilian vegetal formation. Used to follow the country’s coast from Rio Grande do Sul until Rio Grande do Norte (meridional and northeast regions). At the south and southeast regions, it used to go until Argentina and Paraguay. Due to deforestation, mainly beginning in the 20th Century, it is today extremely reduced, being one of the tropical forests more threatened in the globe.

Caatinga - This is a biome exclusively Brazilian, meaning that a large portion of its biologic property may not be found anywhere else in the planet. The caatinga occupies an area of 750,000 km², approximately 11% of the Brazilian territory, comprising a continuous portion of the states of Maranhão, Piauí, Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Alagoas, Sergipe, Bahia and part of North of Minas Gerais (Southeast of Brazil).

Catalogue - Instrument of research in which an exhaustive or partial description of a fund or one or more of its subdivisions takes a documental piece as its unit, respecting or not the classification order.

Cerrado - Phytogeographic space of savanna type that occurs in Brazil and in parts of Paraguay. It presents a huge vegetal and animal biodiversity.

Charity - Means benevolence, compassion; this term is not accepted by part of Third Sector activists for representing old political relations and reproduction of poverty, such as alms.

Ciliary Forest - Designation given to vegetation at the margins of rivers and springs. This term refers to the fact that it may be taken as a type of "cilium", which protects the water courses from sand obstruction.

Citizenship - Concept that involves the relation between rights and duties of individuals before the State.

Civil Society (Law) - 1) Legal entity formed by the association of individuals with the purpose of producing profits from the activities performed. 2) Collection of institutions, organizations and behavior among the State, the world of business and the family. It includes specifically those organizations of volunteers and nonprofit organizations of different types, philanthropic institutions, social and political movements, other forms of social participation and engagement, and all cultural values and standards associated to them.

Civil Society Organizations of Public Interest - OSCIP - Legal entities defined by Law No. 9790/99; nonprofit organizations that stand out for the public interest of their activities and objectives; only organizations with social objective are qualified as OSCIPs, at least one of the purposes provided for under article 3 of Law No. 9790/99, and that render free services; they may enter into Partnership Terms with the public sector.

Collection - Artificial gathering of documents that, without an organic relation between themselves, presents some common characteristic.

Conscious consumption - A worry for not acquiring goods (durable or non-durable) that may cause a loss to the environment or to human beings.

CONSED - National Council of Education Secretaries, an entity that gathers Education States and Federal District secretaries. Its objective is to promote the integration of such secretaries, aiming at developing a quality education.

Cooperativism - Principle that grants to cooperatives a fundamental role in the economic organization of the society.

Corporate Governance - A system that allows stakeholders or quotaholders a strategic management of the company and an effective monitoring of executive management, by directing it to reach the long-term objectives of principal stakeholders.

Cultural property - As said in Brazil, it is the collection of all goods, material or immaterial, which, due to its own value, should be considered of relevant interest to the permanence and cultural identity of a people.
